Training

CMA Exam
After undergoing the training, you may choose to receive certification by passing the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam, which is administered by some professional medical associations. One of the most reputed licensing authorities is the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), which administers the CMA certification/re-certification examination. This association recommends that for preparing for the exam, you need to refer to several assisting publications, which include knowledge on physiology, anatomy, medical abbreviations and nomenclatures, and certain lab procedures.
You also have the alternative of undergoing a short exam review course. Prospective medical assistants are suggested to go through content outlines, and take practice tests to help them be well-prepared for taking the exam. You may give the exam three times in a year, i.e., in January, June, and October. To be eligible for the test, you need to apply several months in advance. You also need to complete your schooling by the time the exam commences.
If a person is about to become a graduate or has graduated recently, he may have the option of paying lesser fees than that for a person who has taken a considerable amount of gap in his graduation and the exam. After submitting the application, you normally need to wait for two months for the permission to be granted for doing so. This is one of the primary reasons why it is recommended to apply months in advance.
